Now, free treatment for pregnant women, newborns, infants at PGI

Now, the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) will provide free treatment to pregnant women and sick newborns and infants under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK).

Under the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram, there is a provision to provide completely free service to pregnant women (up to 42 days after delivery), sick newborns and infants up to the age of one year. Kumar Gaurav Dhawan, Deputy Director, PGI

The JSSK, an initiative of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to ensure better healthcare facilities for mother and child, is being implemented at the PGI. Under the initiative, there was a provision to provide completely free service to pregnant women (up to 42 days after delivery), sick newborn and infants up to the age of one year, said Deputy Director Kumar Gaurav Dhawan.

At the PGI, a new category for JSSK is now been created in the Hospital Information System. The new category includes infants (not more than one year of age on the date of admission) and pregnant women. The category will automatically revert to general on the attainment of age of one year for infants and 28 days after delivery for pregnant woman as per the JSSK guidelines. The facility shall be available to both OPD and IPD patients.

The medical record department will ensure that correct date of birth of newborn, neonates and infants is fed in the system at the time of initial registration so that no confusion regarding entitlement based on the age arises. All pregnant women visiting the PGI for ante-natal care or delivery will be enrolled as per the JSSK guidelines.

The PGI Administration has decided that the supplies available in the hospital will continue to be used for the JSSK beneficiaries through pharmacy and hospital stores. The additional items that are not available in hospital supplies will be procured from AMRIT Pharmacy.

An inventory of urgent drugs and disposables will be kept for meeting urgent needs. A committee will periodically review the implementation of the JSSK.

There will be colour-coding of files wherein blue file cover will be used both for JSSK beneficiaries.
