Mohali, November 27

It has been 15 days since a 24-year-old woman died in a hit-and-run mishap in Sector 79 here, but the police are yet to trace the suspect.

The police have failed to arrest the suspect despite the fact that an eyewitness had noted down the registration number of motorcycle and gave it to the police. The woman has left behind two children, aged six and eight.

Nowhere to go, the children are now staying with the family of victim Meenu Chauhan’s prospective husband, Dheeraj, who already has four children from her deceased first wife.

Dheeraj and his mother Anita want to take care of the children, but they face financial constraints to rear a family of eight persons.

On Friday, when the family was expecting relief from the administration and justice from the police, Mohali SP (Traffic) Gurjot Singh Kaler visited their house to provide winter clothing to the children. With two children in his lap, he also shot a traffic awareness message.
