Panchayat secretaries staged a protest dharna in front of the office of the Director, Rural Development and Panchayat Department, here today.
Addressing the protesters, Jaspal Singh Bath, president of the Panchayat Secretaries Union, Punjab, claimed that salaries of panchayat secretaries, CPF arrears and pensions of retired employees had not been paid for the past several months due to which they were forced to go on strike.
He said the old pension scheme was introduced to panchayat secretaries in 2019 through a letter of the department, but despite the lapse of almost three years, 65 retired employees and the families of those employees who died during this period were still waiting for the pension.
Jaspal Singh asserted that demands of panchayat secretaries should be fulfilled immediately or else they would be forced to intensify the stir.
Gurjeevan Singh Brar, Jaspal Singh Bath, Ravinder Singh Gill, Sandeep Kumara, Varinder Kumar, Nirmal Singh, Amrik Singh, Beant Singh, Nishan Singh, Sanjeev Kumar Soni, Mangat Singh, Jagmohan Kang, Baljinder Singh, Davinder Singh, Desh Raj, besides several other members of the union were part of the protest.
