Patiala, November 17

In a bid to create awareness about menstrual health among women of the district, former Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur inaugurated ‘Project Pakeezah’ at the annual day celebrations at Government Senior Secondary Multipurpose School for Girls, Model Town, here on Saturday.

Under the project, sanitary napkin vending machines will be installed at senior secondary schools and anganwadi centres in the district.

A pack of three ultra-thin and biodegradable sanitary pads will be provided for Rs 10 and six napkins for Rs 20.

Preneet said, “Though there has been appreciable upward movement in the provisions of healthcare practices in rural areas, the issue of menstrual health has not been addressed in the manner in which it ought to be done. Due to relatively restricted access to sanitary pads due to availability or pricing constraints, still a large section of women population remains deprived of good menstrual health facilities.”

Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit said the initiative would surely go a long way in improving the health condition of girl students and women.
