Chandigarh, August 16

The process for approval to fill 261 assistant professors, senior residents, 287 junior residents, 82 doctorate of medicine, and 131 technical staff posts is under way.

This was stated by Prof Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, during the 72nd Independence Day celebration on Wednesday.

He said in the last one year, 200 doctors had been appointed, 30 had been promoted under the Assessment Promotion Scheme, 76 employees had been appointed, 119 confirmed and 267 had been financially upgraded.

To provide affordable medicines and medical implants, many AMRIT outlets and Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been opened and the PGI will soon start its own pharmacy.

The Third Cadre Review and Coordination Committee’s report has been submitted for consideration to the ministry. The 7th pay commission report has already been implemented by the institute.

“Work has been awarded for a 300-bed advanced mother and child care centre worth Rs485 crore and a 300-bed advanced neurosciences centre worth Rs495 crore, which will be started shortly. The PGI has been providing OPD services to 500-600 patients daily through the PGI Outreach Satellite Centre in Sangrur,” he said.

He said despite PGIMER being a referral hospital, approximately 10,000 patients were being examined at the OPDs and emergency every day.

“The faculty members and resident doctors are busy with clinical and research activities and are able to generate approximately Rs33 crore as extramural grants from various research agencies,” he added.
