PU boxers continue to impress

Panjab University’s Shankar out-punched Gaurav of Lovely Professional University, Phagwara, to win his 91kg bout in the ongoing All-India Inter-University Boxing Championship here today. 

Akhil of Guru Jambeshwar University, Hissar, got the better of Chandigarh University’s Jaswinder, while Ranjit Singh of DBUMG overpowered J Bala Krishna of Sri Venkateswara University. Rajan Singh of ALD University beat Baljit Singh of Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa. 

Shishpal powers on 

Local pugilist Shishpal Singh continued his dominance in the light fly weight (46kg to 49kg) category as he overcame S Satish of Osmania University, Hyderabad, to advance to the final qualifying round of the championship. 

Neeraj Kumar of University of Delhi beat K Pounraj of Bharthiar University, while Krishan Kant of Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, tamed Sheaik Usman of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University. 

In the fly weight (52kg) category, Mewa Singh of the hosts Panjab University defeated Shariq of University of Madras to win his third successive bout in the competition.   

Nitesh of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University tamed Manu Kumar of SUSO to stay alive in the championship.

Vivek Tagore of Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer, knocked out Kamaljeet of KUCJ, while Pawan of OPJS University got the better of GKUB’s Sonu. 

In the last two bouts of the category, Vinod Tavar of Kurukshetra University tamed Ashish Chaudhary Charan Singh University, while Rahul of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, humbled Tushar Marutij of TMUP.

Sandeep punches ahead 

In the light weight (60kg) category, hosts’ Sandeep defeated Chandigarh University’s Palwinder Singh to ease into the next round. 

Bantee Singh of Chaudhary Charan Singh beat Rohit Taje of JNV University, Jaipur, while Sachin Dalal of Lovely Professional University accounted for Aman Kumar of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University.

Another local boxer Shubham Singh won his opening fight in the welter weight (69kg) category against S Ahameh Hussain of Anna University, Tamil Nadu. 

Mohammad Aish of Himachal University beat MUC’s A Bijen Singh, while Sandeep of Chaudhary Devi Lal University overwhelmed Vikash of PAR University. 

Aditya, Rohit advance 

In middle weight (75kg) category, Aditya Mann of Panjab University knocked out Manik Handa of TDAL University. 

Sandeep Kumar of DBUMG overpowered Tushar Mauk of BRA University Aurangabad, while Cheetan Deelip of Savitribai Phule Pune University overcame Aakash of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, Jalandhar. Sanjay of MDU Rohak edged past G Parthiban of University of Madras. 

Rohit of Panjab University, meanwhile, won his light heavy weight (81kg) bout against Yogesh Kumar of Jiwaji University, Gwalior.

Sohit of OPJS University humbled Aditya Sudhakar of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, while Vimal of Sant Baba Bhag Singh University got the better of K Vijaya Kumar of AUAP.
