Rain forecast for three days in Chandigarh



Chandigarh: The local Meteorological Department has forecast light rain for three days. Gusty winds at 30 to 40 kmph are also expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The city recorded 15.6 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours. The maximum temperature in the city on Thursday was 34.7°C, three degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 24.2’C, one degree below normal. TNS

Milkha’s health improving: PGI

Chandigarh: Former Indian sprinter Milkha Singh is said to be stable and improving under the supervision of a medical team at the PGI. “He is stable and improving. He is constantly being monitored by a medical team,” read a media bulletin issued by PGI. The 91-year-old has been shifted out of the Covid ICU. “Milkha ji continues to battle and we remain hopeful,” read a statement issued by his family. TNS

Sputnik V jab from tomorrow

Mohali: Sputnik V, a Russian Covid vaccine, will be available as part of a limited pilot roll-out at Fortis Hospital here from June 19. Announcing this, a Fortis Healthcare stated that the two-dose vaccine stock had been directly procured from Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, as per the government guidelines. A hospital spokesman said the price per dose for Sputnik V, as fixed by the government, was Rs1,145, including administrative charges. TNS

Two swindlers in police net

Chandigarh: Two swindlers have been arrested by the cyber cell of the UT police for duping a Sector 27 resident of Rs59,999, posing as RBL Bank executives. The accused have been identified as Ashish (23) and Nikhil (24), both residents of Delhi. They were produced in a court on Thursday and remanded in eight-day police custody. TNS

Advit brings laurels to city

Chandigarh: Advit Agrawal (10), a student of Strawberry Fields High School, Sector 26, has brought laurels to Chandigarh by bagging top rank in the MaRRS International Spell Bee Championship (under category II). MaRRS International Spelling Bee is one of the Spelling Bee competitions held in Asia for schoolchildren. The objective of the competition is to enhance the spelling and literary skills of children by encouraging them to explore the English language. The eleven rounds of the competition go beyond just spellings and test almost all elements of the English language. TNS

2 oxygen systems at Mohali Hospital

Mohali: The district unit of the Indian Red Cross Society installed two medical oxygen supply systems of 45 LPM capacity at the Civil Hospital in Phase 6 here on Thursday. The Deputy Commissioner said the society had provided funds amounting to Rs40 lakh by M/S Sonalika Social Development Society, Hoshiarpur, Punjab, under its corporate social responsibility. TNS
