From sectors to colonies and villages, and from north to south, the Modi wave was all over. The BJP candidate, Kirron Kher, maintained the lead in almost all polling booths in the city.

The BJP took the lead in all 10 booths at Dhanas where the highest polling was recorded. The only consolation for the Congress came from Ram Darbar, Maloya, Dadumajra and Sector 25 where the party took the lead in most of the booths. At 12 booths in Maloya, out of a total of 18 booths, and at almost all 10 booths in Sector 25, the Congress remained ahead of the BJP.

At Sarangupr, Khuda Lahora, Khuda Ali Sher, Kishangarh, Kaimbbala, Behlana, Raipur Khurd, Khuda Jassu Daria and Hallomajra villages, the BJP was ahead of the Congress.

At Manimajra, the Congress was expecting a good show after the induction of Gurcharan Das Kala, former Mayor, but the BJP took the lead in a majority of the booths there too.

In the southern part also, Kher was ahead in Sector 45, 46 and 47. The Congress also failed to get lead in Sector 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53 and 56. Except three or four booths in Sector 38, the Congress trailed there too. From Sector 39 to 41, the BJP had the upper hand. In the most populated part, Industrial Area, the BJP got the lead in all 10 booths.

A majority of voters in Sector 32 to 35, voted in favour of the BJP. The situation was the same in Sector 46. The BJP had a clean sweep in Sector 29 and Industrial Area. The Congress also failed to get the lead in all booths in Sector 22. The Congress was a no-show even in Sector 18, 19, 20, 21 and 22. However, the party was ahead in a majority of the booths at Sector 23.

At Sector 50, the BJP got over 50 per cent votes. At Badhedi, Sector 63 and 42, the Congress drew a blank. The Congress also failed to get the lead at Dadumajra.

Of 10 booths at Mouli Jagran, the Congress barely managed to get the lead in three. At Sector 27 and 28, the Congress failed in all booths. Of four booths of Sector 28, the BJP was ahead in two. In the northern Sectors of 4, 7, 10, 11 and 12, the BJP took the lead in almost half of the sectors. Of five booths in Sector 15, the Congress took the lead only in one.

1,500 press NOTA in Dadu Majra

Around 1,500 residents of Dadu Majra pressed the NOTA button on May 19. Dyal Krishan, president of the Dumping Ground Joint Action Committee, said voters preferred not to vote for any of the parties to show their anguish over the dumping ground issue.

District Cong (Rural) chief submits papers

While the Congress has started introspecting its defeat, office-bearers are tendering their resignations owning the responsibility for the poor show. Gurpreet Singh Happy, president of District Congress (Rural), has submitted his resignation to the party president, saying that he owned the responsibility for not being able to lead the party in the villages. However, Pradeep Chabra, Chandigarh Congress president, rejected his resignation.
