Chandigarh, August 14

Paramjit Kaur, a senior citizen and a resident of Dhanas, celebrated Raksha Bandhan in a unique way.

She tied ‘rakhi’ to Mayor Rajesh Kalia and many other high officials and reminded them of civic issues in her area.

She requested the officials to save her from disease and infection by performing their duty well by removing encroachments and cleaning parks in Dhanas. She sent ‘rakhis’ with a similar request to the Prime Minister, Chief Justice of India, Administrator, Deputy Commissioner, Municipal Officer, Health, Municipal Commissioner and Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.

“Four parks, including the one adjoining my house, are not maintained. Some people are dumping waste and tethering cattle along the boundary walls of these parks. The foul smell is troubling us and we fear that there might be an outbreak of diseases,” she said.

Free bus travel for women

Chandigarh: Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) will offer free rides to women on Raksha Bandhan tomorrow. Sources said women would be allowed to travel free in CTU buses running within the tricity on August 15.
