Chandigarh, January 14

The Chandigarh Railway authorities are yet to declare the schedule to start plying of trains from platform number 1. The deadline for the completion of work of washable apron is January 19.

Hari Deep Kumar, director, Chandigarh railway station, said, “January 19 is the deadline for the completion of work. Once we get the completion report from the Engineering Wing, the schedule for the said platform will be released. Date has not been finalised yet in this regard.”

Sources said officials were hopeful that the services would start from January 18, but they have not got any official report yet.

Officials said such renovation work takes place on railway tracks usually in three-four years.

“Cemented tracks get cracks and need renovation. So, construction work of washable apron is being carried out with 36-day deadline,” said an official.

Last month, the railway authorities have announced that platform number 1 will be blocked for 36 days starting December 14 affecting services of eight trains. Trains are short originating from Ambala rather than Chandigarh.
