Punching way above her weight, Haryana’s Suhana Saini felled Karnataka’s Yashaswini Ghorpade to win the singles of the youth under-19 girls’ crown in the UTT National Ranking North Zone Table Tennis Championships at Tau Devi Lal Multipurpose Indoor Stadium here today. Suhana won 4-3 in a thriller.

Payas Jain of Delhi, after his recent exploits in Tunisia, Slovenia and Oman, made sure he added another silverware in the under-19 boys’ little later. He defeated state-mate Yashansh Malik 4-0 to win the singles trophy and also a purse of Rs34,000.

Youth U-19 Boys Singles (Final): Payas Jain (Del) bt Yashansh Malik (Del) 11-4, 11-7, 11-8, 11-9.

Semifinals: Payas Jain bt H Jeho (Miz) 11-4, 11-6, 11-6, 7-11, 11-8; Yashansh Mali bt Deepit R Patil (Mah) 7-11, 3-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-9, 11-5, 11-7.

Youth U-19 Girls Singles (Final): Suhana Saini (Har) bt Yashaswini Ghorpade (Kar) 5-11, 11-9, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9, 13-11.

Semifinals: Yashaswini Ghorpade bt Vanshika Bhargava (Del) 11-5, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6; Suhana Saini bt Diya Chitale (Mah) 10-12, 7-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 11-8, 11-9.
