To bring clarity on basic concepts of various subjects, the primary section of government schools has been provided books having elaborate pictorial and activity-based content.

The books have been provided under Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab initiative to 836 elementary schools across the district. These books are being offered to the students of Classes I-V.

In these Punjabi medium books, there is a wide range of pictorial and activities to help students understand various concepts. The teachers have also been provided supplement study material, such as flash cards and story cards to be used during the class. Activity-based exercises have been included in the books.

Amit Kumar Gupta, assistant district coordinator, Padho Punjab, Padhao Punjab, said, “These books had been designed with the involvement of primary teachers. The content has been modified from simple text to a number of pictures explaining each and every aspect of a particular chapter.”

These books are helping the young minds to understand English chapters and stories as storyboard and flash cards are being used by the teacher to narrate the story.

Each teacher has been provided with a particular manual for their respective subject, which has to be completed within a month.

“Students can better identify the alphabets now with use of supplement material. The books have improved the reading ability of students. These books offer practical education to the students,” added Gupta.

Aman Kumar, a primary teacher at a government school, said, “The enthusiasm of students has reached the next level. It has become easier for us to help them comprehend the syllabus. In the long run, it will also enable students to complete the work by themselves as the pictures are already there to make the work easy.”

Amarjit Singh, a student of government elementary school, Azad Nagar, Amritsar, said, “I love these books. There are so colourful with so many pictures.”
