Gymnasts do city proud, receive warm welcome

AMRITSAR: Gymnasts were given a grand welcome as they reached holy city on Monday after their terrific performance at 3rd Dubai International Rhythmic Gymnastics DuGym Cup 2018 held in Dubai from December 5-8.

Gymnasts were given a grand welcome as they reached holy city on Monday after their terrific performance at 3rd Dubai International Rhythmic Gymnastics DuGym Cup 2018 held in Dubai from December 5-8.

The team of 14 young gymnasts from various educational institutes, Punjab Institute of Sports, reached Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport. The team bagged 40 medals( 17 gold, 8 silver and 15 bronze). The players competed in U-15 and senior categories.

Neetu Bala, international coach, said, “I am very proud of my team. They have given an outstanding performance. A nine-year-old player was also member of the team. They have set a new benchmark.”

“I am thankful to the Punjab Sports Department, Punjab Institute of Sports, and Guru Nanak Dev University for their support and motivation,” added Bala.

The team consisted of Kulnoor Kaur, Amberpreet Kaur, Sarabgun Kaur, Sukhmandeep Kaur Deol, Kriti Dhami, Priti, Anikta Sachdeva, Sarpreet Kaur Sidhu, Simranjot Kaur, Mehak Kejriwal, Priyanshu, Gursirat Kaur, Parleen Kaur Mann, Geetanshi Kaushish. Players of 19 countries took part in the tournament.

The team was honoured by the District Sports Authority and they were given a warm welcome at Khalsa College, Guru Nanak Dev University as well.
