Amritsar, July 15

A prisoner was thrashed by his fellow jail inmates in the high security Amritsar Central Jail here on Friday. They removed his clothes and allegedly inserted green chilli in his rectum. The incident came to light when a complaint was lodged with the Islamabad police by the jail authorities.

The case has been registered under Section 52 of the Prisoners Act against Hardeep Singh, alias Chintu, of Phillaur, Kamaldeep Singh, alias Prince, of New Golden Avenue and Honey of Dashmesh Avenue.

The victim, Prem Singh, of Khabe Rajputan village was rushed to the Civil Hospital from where he was shifted to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. He came back to the jail after treatment.

Prem Singh, who is in the jail for kidnapping and rape, had an old enmity with the accused. Earlier too, they had clashed with one another. On Friday, he had an altercation with the accused over some coupon (jail currency) as the attackers accused him of stealing their coupons. They caught hold of him and removed his clothes, beat him up and later inserted green chilli in his private parts, said Jail Assistant Superintendent Mangal Singh.

Kuldeep Singh, investigating officer, said the accused would be brought on production warrant to probe the matter.

According to sources, Hardeep is in jail under the NDPS Act while Kamaldeep is serving 10-year imprisonment in connection with a similar case. Honey is behind the bars for kidnapping and murder.

Meanwhile, another inmate, identified as Arun Bhatti, was found possessing a mobile phone. The cell phone was recovered during a search operation. A case has been registered against him.
