Amritsar, July 15

The online payment facility for water and sewerage, which started on July 9, has received a good response from residents, say MC officials.

The Municipal Corporation (MC) had come up with the online service to make it convenient for residents to pay bills without visiting the civic body office. One has to create an account on the MC website to make the payment.

Earlier, paying bills was a tough task for residents as they had to stand in long queues.

Mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu had recently launched the Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC). The software for paying water sewerage bill was developed by an IT firm, which has been operating the CFC. The online bill payment service is being run by the MC office in collaboration with a private bank.

After making the payment, the payer receives a confirmation message on mobile or email. Ashwani Kumar, a resident of Majitha road, said people were waiting for such a service for long.

Rajinder Singh, another resident, said paying water sewerage bill was not an easy task but “I appreciate the online service as my grandson pays the bill with a click.”

The MC office has also prepared a list of defaulters who had not deposited their water sewerage bills and the department is going to take strict action against them. The MC office is also going to start an online service for the payment of property tax soon.
