Amritsar, February 17

Rotary Club Amritsar West distributed certificates to around 80 girls of Preet Vocational School being run by its member and philanthropist Dr Jaspreet Grover here on Sunday. The club also gifted tricycles to over 12 needy girls.

Dr Grover said that all girls had completed three months sewing and tailoring course offered free of cost by the school. He said, “The technical skill helps girls find employment with tailoring industry and feel empowered after they start earning for them and their parents”.

Dr Shalu Aggarwal, a prominent eye specialist, said that helping young girls with no means to earn their livelihood would help them find respect among their families and neighbours as they would be seen as earners. She said that in society where males were seen as bread earners and women as housekeepers, the women can be empowered only if they were seen as equal to male members.

The event was attended by professor Rajesh Kapila, Government Medical College, Dr Shalu Aggarwal, eye specialist, Raminder Grover and many other prominent personalities of the city.
