Powercom JE booked for raping woman

The police have booked Partap Singh, a Junior Engineer (JE) of Powercom posted at Goindwal Sahib, under Section 376 of the IPC for raping a Chandigarh-based woman.

The victim had come to the holy town of Goindwal Sahib some days ago and was impressed with the natural atmosphere of the river-side area.

She was passing the bus stoppage of the township when she saw a woman shopkeeper. She asked the shopkeeper to inform her of a kothi (bungalow) up for sale in the township. She provided her the cell number of the JE, who allegedly also deals in sale/purchase of property, for further queries.

After returning to Chandigarh, the woman contacted Partap Singh on his cell expressing her desire to purchase a kothi in Goindwal Sahib.

Accused Partap Singh asked her to come to Jandiala Guru on November 29. He took her to the local Muradpur locality in his car. He ushered her into a kothi and after bolting the entrance door of the kothi raped her.

The victim said her friend with the assistance of area elders tried to broker a compromise between them, which could not be reached hence she approached the police for justice. Sub-Inspector (SI) Narinder Kaur recorded the statement of the victim. The accused is absconding. — OC
