The Radical Teachers Forum swept the elections to the Guru Nanak Dev University Teachers’ Association (GNDUTA) 2018-2019 on Tuesday.
The contest was between the Radical Teachers Forum and the Dynamic Teachers’ Association. A total of 309 staff members cast their votes.
From the Radical Teachers Forum, Davinder Singh has been elected as the president, Nareshpal Singh Saini as vice-president and Lakhwinder Singh as secretary.
Amandeep Singh from the Dynamic Teachers Association has been elected as joint secretary. Jatinder Kumar from the Radical Teachers Forum is the new treasurer.
However, certain objections were raised by the Radical Teachers Forum over the election of a candidate from the Dynamic Teachers’ Association.
Dr Preet Mohinder Singh Bedi, returning officer, said, “The elections saw 95 per cent polling. Some objections were raised by the Radical Teachers Forum. I will consult the rule book and thereafter, I will talk on the matter.”
Talking about the objections, newly elected president Davinder Singh said, “According to the university calendar, there cannot be three members from the same department. Hence, we have raised the objections. Working for the welfare of teachers is our prime aim. We will work in the same spirit.”
Executive members were also elected.
