World Hospice and Palliative Care Day was organised at Sri Guru Ram Das (SGRD) University of Health Sciences, Sri Amritsar. MBBS students participated in a poster competition and judges for event were Dr Meena Sudan, professor and head, department of oncology and Dr Priyanka Devgan, professor and head, department of community medicine. Dr Harjot Singh, assistant professor, department of community medicine, organised the event under the guidance of Dr AP Singh, dean, SGRD University of Health Sciences.

The theme of WHPCD 2019 day was, “My Care, My Right”. It was to communicate that palliative care can be demanded by the public and that, together, every person impacted by a life limiting illness can influence their policy makers to prioritise palliative care financing under universal health coverage.This year comes on the heels of the UN high level meeting on universal health coverage (UHC) on September 23. The sub-theme of “My Care, My Right” addressed the importance of mobilising communities, particularly volunteers to ensure that patient’s right to care is supported. Specifically addressing the premise that if care is a patient’s right, how can UHC support caretakers to improve their well-being under sustainable development goal 3.8.
