ASHA workers, mid-meal cooks seek hike in salary

Demanding a hike in their salaries, ASHA workers and facilitators, along with mid-day meal cook and workers and PWD employees, under the banner of the Democratic Employees Federation, Punjab, staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

The protest was headed by Jaswinder, Lakhwinder Kaur, Karamjeet Kaur, Shinderpal Kaur and Sarbjeet Kaur.

While addressing the protesters, Pawan Kumar, organisational zonal convener, said the state government must pay Rs8,403 per month to ASHA workers, mid-day meal workers and part-time sanitation workers. He said ASHA facilitators should get a salary of Rs18,000 per month.

Union leader Jaspal Bangi demanded regularisation of the services of 27,000 temporary and contractual workers as per the November 2016 notification.

He said the old pension scheme should be implemented.

The protesters also demanded that instead 10-month salary, mid-day meal workers should get 12-month salaries. The move to reduce the salary of the mid-day meal workers to Rs10,300 should be rolled back.
