Four days after a 32-year-old man of Kotkapura town was killed in a police “encounter” at Mysuru in Karnataka, he was cremated here on Monday evening.

The deceased was identified as Sukhwinder Singh. After getting information, deceased’s sister and maternal uncle had rushed to Mysuru on May 18. They brought the body here.

The Karnataka police have claimed that Sukhwinder, alias Shaan, was a gangster and was killed in an encounter with the Vijaynagar police near Mysuru when he was making a deal of fake currency. Family members alleged Sukhwinder was killed without any reason and the police were now terming his incident an encounter, tagging him as a gangster to save their own skin.

Before taking the body into her custody, his sister, who is a dentist, lodged a complaint with the Karnataka police.

The Mysuru police have decided to incorporate this complaint in the complaint lodged by Inspector BG Kumar at the Vijaynagar police station.

In his complaint, BG Kumar had alleged that the deceased was intercepted on Thursday morning.

“Well-built Sukhwinder grabbed a cop as a security cover. The police fired in self-defence first in the air. However, the bullet hit Sukhwinder, killing him on the spot,” claimed BG Kumar.

On suspicion that there was something amiss in the encounter in which Sukhwinder was killed, the Police Department has already transferred by BG Kumar to the headquarters.

“As there were several loopholes in the shoot-out story since the day first and keeping in view the complaint of family members of the deceased, the Inspector has been shifted to the headquarters. The incident is being probed by the CID and till the pendency of the inquiry, the Inspector has been shifted,” said KT Balakrishna, Mysuru Police Commissioner.

The police claimed that Sukhwinder Singh had earlier worked as a security guard with many Bollywood celebrities, including Akshay Kumar, in Mumbai.

The police alleged that he was part of a fake currency racket in the country and on Thursday, he was in Mysuru to collect demonetised notes.
