Mishap snuffs out two lives

BATHINDA: Two persons were killed and two others injured in a road mishap near Deon village on the Bathinda-Muktsar road here on Sunday evening.

Two persons were killed and two others injured in a road mishap near Deon village on the Bathinda-Muktsar road here on Sunday evening.

According to information, a car, which was driven rashly, rammed into a motorcycle and an Activa. The car driver fled the spot, while nearby residents took the injured to the hospital.

On the statement of a relative of the deceased, the police have booked the unidentified car driver. The police have also impounded the car.

It is learnt that the car was being driven at a high speed and three persons were traveling in it. According to information, the car occupants were under the influence of liquor. They were returning to Bathinda after attending a marriage function. Besides sweet boxes, a packet of cigarette has been seized from the car.

Harneik Singh, SHO, Bathinda Sadar police station, said, “Victim Gurmeet Singh of Deon village, who works as a labourer, has told the police that on Sunday evening, he, along with his friend Thana Singh, was returning after completing his work on a motorcycle. After sometime, a rashly driven Swift Dzire car came from the opposite side and rammed into them. Later, the car hit an Activa as well. His friend Thana and Activa rider Ramkher Singh died after reaching the hospital.”
