Mobile phone, SIM card recovered from jail inmate

BATHINDA:The authorities on Saturday night carried out a checking and recovered a cell phone, a SIM card and a battery from an inmate of the Bathinda Central Jail.

Bathinda, August 12

The authorities on Saturday night carried out a checking and recovered a cell phone, a SIM card and a battery from an inmate of the Bathinda Central Jail.

The accused has been identified as Jagtar Singh, a resident of Barnala.

The jail authorities on Saturday carried out a checking inside the premises. The Jail Assistant Superintendent told the Cantonment police that during a check, a cell phone, a SIM card and a battery were recovered from the inmate.

Investigating Officer Inderjit Singh said a case under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code at the Cantonment police station against Jagtar.

Sources said cell phones help criminals threaten witnesses, besides making plans to escape from the jail.

Sometimes, the prisoners also extort money while staying inside the jail. Notably, the state government had decided to install jammers in all jails but the project has not started due to lack of funds.
