To register their resentment against the state government for canecharging on the protesting teachers in Patiala and not fulfilling promises made to them, members of the Teachers Struggle Committee on Wednesday announced to boycott the ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’ project.

Teachers under the banner of the Adhyapak Sangharsh Committee held a mock funeral procession of the state government on Wednesday here.

Raising slogans against the Education Minister and the Chief Minister, the teachers alleged that they were doing injustice with teachers.

The protesting teachers said any officer of the Education Department, who would force the teachers to work on the ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’ project, would face their protest.

Terming the ‘Parho Punjab, Parhao Punjab’ project an “extra burden” on teachers and a “threat” to the state and Punjabi culture, the protesters said they would restrict themselves to the prescribed syllabus to teach the students.

Instead of paying the salary to teachers and improving the standard of schools, the state government was wasting a lot of money on the project and its activities, said the protesters.

“We have decided to boycott every programme or activity designed under the project,” said Prem Chawla and Sukhwinder Singh Sukh, leaders of the Adhyapak Sangarash Committee here.

The protesting teachers said the project had created confusion among teachers as they were in a fix as what to teach.
