The Mansa police claimed to have arrested two persons with duplicate mobile phones, batteries and other accessories worth Rs34.30 lakh.

Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Narinder Bhargav said the police were on alert due to the festival season.

He said mostly people purchased more new items during festivals and taking advantage of it, criminal elements sold duplicate items in the market in guise of original items to make more profit.

The Senior Superintendent of Police said two days ago, the Mansa police recovered duplicate batteries and other mobile accessories and arrested two persons.

The suspects have been identified as Ashwani Kumar and Rajiv Kumar, both residents of Mansa.

A car has also been impounded.

The The Senior Superintendent of Police said the total market value of the recovered items was Rs34,08,300.

He said the police had received a tip-off that Ashwani and Rajiv were selling duplicate China-made mobile batteries bearing the logo major brands in the markets of Mansa, Maur, Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda.

Acting on it, police laid a naka at the Behniwal bus stand and stopped a car. On checking the vehicle, the police seized 1,080 duplicate mobile phones of Panasonic, 610 duplicate batteries, 320 headphones, 1,010 data cables, 745 mobile screens, 400 mobile chargers, 45 wrappers of MI company and 109 Nokia/Jio wrappers.

A case has been registered against the suspects at the Sadar police station.
