Chandigarh, August 13

A ‘Ride for Freedom’ will be held here on August 19 to promote “healthy life”. The cyclists will flag off from the Sector 9-10 light point on Jan Marg at 5:30 am, the organisers, Sports 13 — a sports management company, said here on Monday.

During the event, cyclists can compete in three different categories --- the 25km run for professional and serious cyclists, a 7.5km fun run and a 3.5km run for children in the age-group of 11 to 16 years, the organisers said.

The top-three cyclists, in both men’s and women’s categories in the 25km run, will get a direct entry into the 6th Chandigarh Cyclothon, which is to scheduled to be held in October.

“The main objective behind organising this cycling event is to motivate people to live a healthy life with a fit body. This can be achieved the fun way through cycling. We will be making all the arrangements for refreshments and energy drinks for all the participants,” the organisers said.
