2 jailed in drug case

CHANDIGARH: A local court on Friday sentenced two youths to 10-year imprisonment in an NDPS case.

A local court on Friday sentenced two youths to 10-year imprisonment in an NDPS case.

Sharif and Salamu were arrested for possessing 2.8-kg opium by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB). The duo have also been directed to pay a fine of Rs 2 lakh each by the court after being found guilty under Sections 18 (b) and 29 of the NDPS Act.

Residents of Madhya Pradesh, Sharif (30) and Salamu (40) were arrested from Sector 17 on August 28, 2016.

As per information, the Narcotics Control Bureau was keeping a strict vigil in the area owing to the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. The two convicts were nabbed at the Sector 17 bus station. They were bringing the contraband from Madhya Pradesh.

The NCB had claimed that they were supplying the opium in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
