The police arrested a 35-year-old woman for possessing 10-gm heroin and six injections of buprenorphine here on Saturday. Shakila alias Bhabhi, a resident of Sector 38, was on her way to Housing Board Colony, Dhanas, when she was caught.

Sources said Shakila, who used to sell artificial jewellery in Sector 35, allegedly got involved in drug peddling to feed her two children as her husband was a drunkard and had not been earning since five years.

The police said she would be produced in a local court on Sunday. Shakila was a first-time offender, but shared some connection with other women drug peddlers in the city, they said.

A case under Sections 21, 22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the Sarangpur Police Station.

In another case, Bano (52) of Dadu Majra, who is a ‘history-sheeter’, was arrested near Sansi Mohalla Park. The police recovered 45-gm heroin and five injections of buprenorphine and pheniramine maleate drugs each from her possession on Friday.

As per sources, Bano has six cases registered against her under the NDPS Act. A fresh case under Sections 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act has been registered against her at the Maloya Police Station. Further investigations were on, the police said.
