Baljinder Singh boarded the bus from Chandigarh and sat on the adjoining seat of the girl. The victim alleged that soon after, he started harassing her and touched her inappropriately. She said she asked him to stop it, but he continued harassing her and even asked her to keep in touch with him in future and gave her his mobile number.

She sent a message on the mobile phone of her brother regarding the incident following which her relatives reached the old bus stand in Ropar town and nabbed Baljinder Singh. After learning about the incident, the crowd at the bus stand got enraged and one of them slapped the ASI. Police personnel reached the spot and took him to the police station.

Senior Superintendent of Police Swapan Sharma said the victim and her parents refused to lodge a formal complaint and demanded a written apology from the ASI in the presence of his wife. After the ASI tendered an apology in front of his wife, he was let off, said the SSP.
