Chandigarh: With the UT police busy in the Lok Sabha elections, a pedestrian snatched a gold chain from a woman, who was sitting at a park in Sector 38.



Chandigarh: With the UT police busy in the Lok Sabha elections, a pedestrian snatched a gold chain from a woman, who was sitting at a park in Sector 38. Sources said the woman had gone to the park for a walk after which she sat there. A miscreant arrived and snatched her gold chain. The police were informed, who visited the spot. “We will scrutinise the footage of cameras installed nearby,” said a police official. An investigation has been initiated at the Sector 39 police station. TNS

Ambala: A head constable allegedly committed suicide here on Saturday. Surender Singh (38), posted at the Panjokhra police station, allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his quarters on new jail land. The victim is survived by two children and wife. In another incident, a 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Defence Colony here. The deceased has been identified as Rachna Pal. She is survived by two children and husband Prem Chand, a naik in the Army. The victim, who was reportedly mentally upset, was found hanging by her husband, who took her to a military hospital where she was declared dead. In yet another case, Akash Kumar (31), a resident of UP, allegedly hanged himself inside his rented accommodation in Dukala village. He was said to be mentally disturbed. TNS
