Chandigarh and Kaithal shared a point each from their Pataudi Trophy match at Mahajan Cricket Grounds in Mani Majra, here, on Saturday after both sides failed to play out an entire inning due to rain.

After the first day’s play was completely washed out, Chandigarh could only play 40 overs in their first innings on the second and final day today.    

Electing to bat, the hosts were struggling on 189/7 when the rain brought an early end to the match. 

Chandigarh had a rollicking start to their innings as Treyaksh Bali went after the Kaithal bowlers from the word go. Bali along with skipper Guntash Veer scored 52 runs within seven overs before SD Dhull struck for the visitors.

The skipper faced 27 balls for his 10 runs before offering a return catch to Dhull.

Bali, though, continued with the onslaught and raced to his half-century. He eventually fell to Sandeep Kumar on 60 runs. His 24-ball stay in the middle was studded with six boundaries and five sixes. 

Manu Jain and Ankit Kumar fell in quick succession as Chandigarh slumped to 73/4. Vikas Sangwan made 12 runs off 27 balls before he fell to Rohit Sharma. 

Ankit Chaudhary and Shasya Jamwal then added 41 runs for the sixth wicket to take the total to 139 runs. Chaudhary was caught by Piyush Sharma off Rohit on 31 runs. Jamwal was the last wicket to fell, stumped by Piyush off AS Sandhu on 27.

Karan Azad was batting on 16 and Vikas Bamel was not out on 22 when the play was finally called off.  

Chandigarh with 13 points from four matches is placed second in group A and would next face table toppers Panchkula on July 16.
