CHANDIGARH: Despite a heroic effort by Nipun Pandita (5/39), Chandigarh faced a humiliating 150-run defeat against West Bengal in the Men''s U-23 One Day semifinals at Dehradun today.

Despite a heroic effort by Nipun Pandita (5/39), Chandigarh faced a humiliating 150-run defeat against West Bengal in the Men's U-23 One Day semifinals at Dehradun today. 

Pandita restricted Bengal for 233/9, but in reply the city boys bundled out for 83 runs to give away the match easily. After winning the toss Chandigarh skipper Jagmeet Singh put in Bengal to bat. Jagjit Singh Sandhu gave a good start to the team by claiming Sudip Gharami (0), while Pandita doubled the joy by accounting for Shubhrajit Das (2) to reduce the side at 6/2. However, Ankur Paul and Kazi Saifi built up an important 92-run partnership to stable the innings. Harshit claimed Saifi (29 off 63 balls, with three boundaries) to push back Bengal at 98/3. Ranjot Khaira then joined Paul and the duo stitched a 46-run partnership before Paul (71 off 104 balls, with eight boundaries and one six) was claimed by Bhagmender Lather. 

Agniv Pan came out to join Khaira and the duo raised a 67-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Sandhu claimed Pan for 21 off 30 balls to break the partnership. Kaira left soon after as he fall prey to Pandita for 60 off 76 balls, with five boundaries. 

Pandita then claimed Pradipta Pramanik (7), Akash Deep (7) and A Mishra (0)--to restrict Bengal at 233/9 in 50 overs. Sandu claimed 2/49, while Lather and Harshit took one wicket each.

In reply city lads had a disastrous start they were packed for 83 runs. Ishan Porel accounted for five wickets — Arslan Khan (1), Jagmeet Singh (1), Raman Bishnoi (1),Aayush Sikka (1) and Ayush Gautam (0). Sandhu (27 off 49 balls, with four boundaries) and Pandita (18 off 24 balls) were the only two to make a double figure contribution in the chase. 

The side collapsed at 83 runs in 31.3 overs. Porel completed his five-wicket haul for 18 runs, while Pramanik (2/17), Akash (1/21) and Mishra (1/4) were the other main wicket takers for the bowling side.  

Arslan gets Ranji Trophy coaching camp call 

Mohd Arslan Khan, who scored five centuries in the Men's One Day Limited Overs, has been call to attend Ranji Trophy Camp by the UTCA.
