Chandigarh defeated Meghalaya by 44 runs in a rain-affected match of the Vinoo Mankad Trophy today. The match was reduced to 21 overs per innings due to wet field.
After winning the toss and opting to bat, city boys posted 158/6. They lost the wickets of Abhishek Singh (1), Arjun Azad (9), Anirudh Tandon (5), Mandeep Singh (5), Yuvraj Chaudhary (2) and Raj Bawa (11) as the team's total read 102 runs. Akshit Rana and Surya Yadav raised a 56-run partnership for the seventh wicket.
Yadav posted 69 off 43 balls, studded with nine boundaries and one six, while Rana added 41 off 18 balls, with two boundaries and three sixes. Aaron Nongrun claimed two wickets, while Abhishek Gupta, Divyansh Rajput and Aryan Borah bagged one each for the bowling side.
In reply, Meghalaya too had a bad start when they lost opener Mrinal Das (2). Divyansh Rajput (38) and Hritik Sharma (26) tried to get the chase back on track, but Amit Shukla and Arjun Azad joined hands to restrict Meghalaya for 114/7 in 21 overs. Azad claimed 3/8, while Shukla took 2/29 to confirm Chandigarh's victory. Sahbaaz Singh and Mandeep Singh also claimed a wicket apiece.
