Man awarded 5-yr jail for sexual assault on minor

Chandigarh, April 18

A local court today sentenced a 32-year-old man to five years in jail for sexual assault on a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict, Sarvesh.

According to the prosecution, a case under Section 354 of the IPC and Section 10 of the POCSO Act was registered against Sarvesh at the Sector 31 police station on the complaint of the mother of the six-year-old girl on August 23, 2018.

In her complaint, the victim’s mother stated that she used to reach home late in the evening due to her work. She stated that Sarvesh used to drink liquor with her husband in their house. On August 22 evening, her daughter went to fetch milk from a shop. On coming back, she told her that Sarvesh had caught hold of her hand and touched her badly.

On her complaint, the police registered a case and arrested the accused. — TNS
