Rain, coupled with wind and lightning, today brought down the maximum temperature in the city to 26.6°C, which is 8 degrees below normal. The minimum temperature dipped two degrees to settle at 19.1°C.

The weatherman recorded 10.7 mm of rainfall from 5.30 am to 8.30 pm. Winds blowing at 10-12 km/hr and peaking at 25 km/hr made residents stay indoors.

While light showers were witnessed in some parts of the city during the day, it rained across the city late in the evening.

“It is due to a western disturbance. The weather will turn dry by afternoon tomorrow,” said Surender Paul, Director, Meteorological Department, Chandigarh.

“People should stay indoors during lightning. When outside, stay away from tree or electricity pole. There have been mishaps in other states,” he advised.

“I checked the forecast on phone, but did not expect a sudden change in the weather. Evening showers surprised us,” said Sameera, a resident of Sector 19.
