While the Mohali police claimed to have solved the case of Mullanpur carjacking at gunpoint by arresting two of the total four snatchers here, the police here are still groping in dark in two other similar cases.

Three persons, who came in a Mahindra Trax, had targeted a journalist of an English daily around 1.40 am and took away his Swift DZire car near the TDI City on October 27.

In another incident of similar nature, three miscreants, who had come on foot, had snatched a Swift DZire car at gunpoint from a local resident, Mohit Verma, on November 28.

The incident took place on the road separating Sector 79 and 80 here when the victim had stopped his Swift DZire car to fetch eggs from a roadside vendor there. In both cases, the police have failed to get any clue about the miscreants.

When contacted, Kharar DSP Deep Kamal claimed that they were hopeful of solving the case of the journalist’s carjacking.

“We are investigating the matter,” said the DSP while admitting that they were yet to get any vital clue in the matter.

Similarly, Mohali DSP (City 2) Ramandeep Singh said the police were on their job to solve the carjacking from Mohit Verma.

“We are working on certain angles in the case,” said DSP Ramandeep Singh.

However, the police claimed that in both cases, they were not hoping the involvement of any organised gang or hardcore criminal.

“Apparently, the cars were snatched for selling purpose and not for any criminal activity,” said a senior police official.
