Nov rainfall at 3-decade high

The rainfall in November this year has broken a three-decade record in Chandigarh. According to the Meteorological Department, this month witnessed a total of 32.7 mm of rainfall in the city, the highest in the past 30 years.

Before this, it was in 1989 that 43.9 mm of rainfall was recorded in the city. The highest rainfall in November was 159.4 mm in 1981 followed by 57.2 mm in 1972, 43.9 in 1989 and 32.7 mm in November this year.

Met Director Surender Paul told Chandigarh Tribune, “This was primarily a confluence of a western disturbance with a low-level easterly wave, which enhanced thunderstorm activities, leading to rainfall and hailstorm.” He said December would witness fog and cold weather. “In December, the minimum temperature will, however, remain above normal. It will result in foggy conditions,” he said.

For the next few days, the sky is expected to be clear. However, haze is likely in the morning and evening. Today, the maximum temperature in the city was 22.8°C, two degrees below normal, while the minimum temperature was 13°C, five degrees above normal.
