Implementing the UGC’s 7th pay revision report, increments to PhD faculty members and filling vacant posts are among the few objectives of Prof Yog Raj-Amrinder group, which is going to challenge the incumbent Panjab University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) chief’s team in elections on August 21.

Prof Yog Raj Angrish, who is fighting for the post of president, said: “The faculty in the dental institute is still waiting for their CAS promotions for many years. Even though the promotion policy was approved by the Syndicate in early 2017, the issue is being played around by asking for one clarification or the other. Besides, many departments are facing acute shortage of faculty. The outgoing PUTA team failed to do the needful.”

Amrinder Pal Singh, who is contesting for the post of secretary, said: “The process of allotting houses has slowed down due to the policy of allotting the vacated houses only after the repair work is completed. The campus is facing acute power shortage in Sector 14 and Sector 25 for many years. The current PUTA could not push the matter.”

“Deliberations on the governance reforms draft was one opportunity for the incumbent PUTA to raise their voice in enhancing the PU faculty participation in the Senate and Syndicate,” said other members of the Prof Yog Raj-Amrinder group.

“We promise our fraternity to strive for greater participation of the PU teachers in the governing bodies of the university,” said Prof Yog Raj.
