Rise to the occasion, please

This refers to a news item, “One bed for three patients at GMCH-32 gynaecology ward”, published in Chandigarh Tribune dated October 14. It sounds totally unbelievable to learn that three women on an average share a bed at the gynaecology ward at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh. This report truly reveals the real inside story of this government hospital, which raises several eyebrows. No wonders then that one of the patient’s kin will be complaining to the Prime Minister highlighting the massive sufferings of the pregnant women at the hands of the doctors of this ward. For sure, its Director-Principal and the UT Administration owe an explanation to the affected patients/residents for such a sorry state of affairs here. Needless to say, such a dismal show evidencing some serious lapses concerning health-related aspects of pregnant women here urgently calls for an independent enquiry by an appropriate authority. Keeping shops open 24X7 not a good idea

This refers to the news report “24×7 shops on mind, UT asks traders” (Chandigarh Tribune, October 15). Keeping the shops open round the clock is not a good idea. Crime in the city will increase. Criminals will loot shops and cash as there will be negligible customers during the night hours. It will be better if shops are allowed to remain open from 6.30 am to 11.30 pm. This will be in the interest of customers as well as shopkeepers.

Roadside parking goes unchecked in Zirakpur

Roadside parking is rampant in Zirakpur. People visiting shops along the road leading to Chandigarh from the Zirakpur-Patiala light point here and on the opposite side frequently park their vehicles on the roadside making it difficult for motorists to commute on this particular stretch. Traffic cops should act tough against the violators.
