Panchkula: An inter-house basketball tournament for boys and girls was organised at Saupin’s School, Panchkula. Students showcased their sporting skills during the tourney.

In girls’ category, Aspen House emerged as the winning team followed by Maple House and Clover House. In boys’ category Clover House were the winners followed by Sycamore House and Maple House. Students displayed their sportsmanship while playing. OC

Blue Bird High School

Panchkula: The 86th Air Force Day was celebrated at Blue Bird High School, Sector-16, Panchkula. A talk was delivered on the occasion explaining how Air Force guards the Indian sky during war time and how its officers help people during the time of need, be it fire, floods or any other kind of emergency. Students were told how Air Force pilots reached places where no one could go. All students enjoyed flying paper air planes made by them and saluted Air Force officials. OC

St Joseph’s Sr Sec School

Chandigarh: A discussion to ingrain a better cognisance of mental health was held at St Joseph’s Sr Sec School,Sector 44-D, Chandigarh. Legal Literacy Club head Simran addressed  students on mental health issues, the stigma associated with it and what they could do to elevate it. The punch line for the discussion was “Living the present and living in the present”. She emphasised that it was important to talk about mental health and take necessary steps to deal with problems like anxiety, stress and depression. Josephians discussed how to control negative thoughts, engaging in a hobby, exercise, making lifestyle changes and seeking professional help as and when required. OC

St Xavier’s High School

Panchkula: World Mental Health Day was observed at St Xavier’s High School, Panchkula. School counsellor Vrinda spoke to  students about mental health in the morning assembly. She highlighted the importance of the day by explaining that it was observed every year on  October 10 to remove and make people aware of the stigma and taboo related to mental health issues. She made children aware about the fact that mental health not only means to think positive, but it also implies to have the resistance and strength to fight back. School Principal George S Shear also guided students to help each other and have an improved path towards mental health. He suggested students to think healthy and positive as a healthy mind resides with a healthy body. OC

Valley Public School 

Panchkula: Music binds our soul, hearts and emotions.  Music is the best method of relaxation.  It cheers the spirit and lightens the heart.  In fact through singing, children learn to express their feelings and ideas. To bring out singing talent of students, an inter-house group song competition was organised at Valley Public School, MDC, Panchkula.  Students of four houses — Aravali, Himalaya, Vindhyanchal and Nilgiri — participated in the competition.  They presented their songs with different props and sung enthusiastically. The first position in the competition was bagged by Nilgiri House, followed by Himalaya House and Aravali House. School vice-principal Asha Sharma appreciated the efforts of students and the Music Department.  All students enjoyed the competition. OC

Sharda Sarvhitkari School

Chandigarh: To raise awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga, a special interactive session of demonstration exercises was held at Sharda Sarvhitkari Sr Sec School, Chandigarh. Dr Shrinivas Murti, parbandhan pramukh and pracharak, Aarogya  Bharati, performed important  asanas, postures and guided students to adopt a healthy lifestyle to stay fit and overcome diseases. He emphasised upon the significant role of yoga in healthy development of youth and explained useful exercises on the occasion. Dr Bansal, surgeon from Chandigarh, and Dr K Babu, child specialist, were also present at the yoga session. School vice-principal Anjali Kapoor welcomed the guests and Principal Archana thanked the experts for their valuable guidance in the session. OC

DC Model Sr Sec School

Panchkula: In a quiz competition ‘Bharat ko Jaano’ organised at Bharat Vikas Parishad Bhavan, Sector 12, Panchkula, Drishti and Shagun Thakur of DC Model Sr Sec School won the first position in the senior level. The quiz aimed to inculcate an attitude among school students to know about the cultural heritage and knowledge about India. Around 11 teams participated in the quiz. The chief guest, Kailash Chandra Madaan, congratulated all participants. School Principal Usha Gupta applauded efforts of the winners and thanked Bharat Vikas Parishad for conducting such competitions. OC
