Dr Jasneet Kaur, a senior consultant at Milann Fertility Centre, Chandigarh and Ambala, on Monday said men who wore tight clothes were found to be suffering from fertility issues. It was not only well researched by PGIMER, Chandigarh, but had also been seen in their OPD observations, she said.

Dr Jasneet said, “We are obsessed with women’s fertility, but it is equally important to assess men’s fertility as well.”

She said, “The general public should be made aware of various chemicals that are present in our environment and undermine fertility. These are known as endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs).”

“And it is surprising to know that these toxicants are present in the things that we use in our daily life such as plastic containers, plastic bottles, cosmetics, perfumes, vegetables containing pesticides and thermal paper. All these agents have substances like BPA, phthalates which mimic the action of various hormones in our body and are known to decrease the semen counts and affect fertility, both in men and women.”

She said also the contribution of laptops was high in causing infertility among couples.
