Varsity case adjourned

PATIALA:Arguments took place in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today during a hearing in a case of re-employment in Punjabi University.

Patiala, December 4

Arguments took place in the Punjab and Haryana High Court today during a hearing in a case of re-employment in Punjabi University.

During the hearing, the university told the court the re-employment scheme was discontinued during the tenure of former Vice Chancellor Anurag Verma.

University Registrar Manjit Singh Nijjar said the university stuck to its decision to discontinue re-employment. He said the university had decided on the matter and it was for the court to take a call on it.

Prof Sansar Singh Janjua, a retired professor who had filed the case against scrapping of the policy, informed that his advocate argued in the court that the decision was taken by an acting VC who was not authorised to take policy decisions.

The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for January 28. — TNS
