Girl found at city rly station

Chandigarh: A 16-year-old girl, who had allegedly run away from her home in Abohar, Punjab, was found at the city railway station on Wednesday. According to the Chandigarh Railway Childline, the girl ran away from her home as her stepmother ill-treated her. Initially, the child was hesitant about sharing her particulars. She opened up when the childline team reassured her. The childline contacted her parents and came to know that learnt that she had run away a day earlier. Her parents had lodged a missing complaint with the police. The girl was produced before the child welfare committee at Maloya, which sent her to a shelter home, Aashiana, in Sector 15. Dr Sangeeta Jund, Project Director, Childline, said, “We have called her parents to counsel them.”  TNS

City Lawyers suspend work

Chandigarh: Advocates suspended work at the District Courts here on Wednesday in protest against the assault on former president of Khanna Bar Association. According to information, former chief of the advocates’ body Munish Khanna was assaulted with sharp weapons on Sunday night.  TNS

Man hangs self in Maloya

Chandigarh: A 27-year-old youth reportedly committed suicide by hanging at his house in Maloya on Wednesday. Sources said the victim had been identified as Brijesh. Found hanging at his house, he was rushed to the GMSH-16, where doctors declared him brought dead. An inquest proceeding has been initiated in this connection at the Maloya police station. TNS
