AAP West Delhi candidate files papers; affidavit found ‘incomplete’

The AAP West Delhi candidate, Balbir Singh Jahkar, today filed his nominations at the DM office in Raja Garden, but his affidavit was found to be "incomplete" by the election authorities.

As per returning officer concerned, the row on government tax dues was left incomplete and Jakhar has to complete the form in all respect before the last date of scrutiny on April 24 failing which his nomination paper can be rejected.

On the issue, Jakhar, an advocate and making his electoral debut, said, "The form was downloaded from the ECI website. There seemed to be some problem in the sequence of the columns and the row on government tax dues. I will file the revised affidavit on April 22."

The AAP leader, who was accompanied by senior leaders Manish Sisodia and Gopal Rai, was among the 36 other candidates who filed their nominations today from various parliamentary segments for the May 12 elections. This takes the total nominations filed in Delhi to 48.

In his affidavit, Jakhar declared movable and immovable assets worth over Rs 3.28 crore. Going by his income tax returns filed last year, his income stood at Rs 9,78,458 and his wife, Anju Jakhar, a government servant, has shown her income at Rs 15,23,293 during the same 2017-18 period.

Movable assets worth Rs 1,85,25,444.05 include deposits and cash possessed by him, his wife and his dependents while value of immovable assets was shown at Rs 1,22,50,000, including that of an inherited agricultural land in Mitraun village worth Rs 1 crore.

He has filed income tax return of Rs 2,58,243 as part of Hindu Undivided Family beneficiary and has liabilities of Rs 41,61,197.85 in the form of car loans and borrowings from private individuals/entities.

Having an LLB degree from CCS University in Meerut, Jakhar has no criminal cases pending against him, stated the affidavit.
