14-member UK delegation visits sports goods unit

A 14-member delegation of youth from the UK, at present on a visit to the state under the state government’s ‘Connect to Your Roots’ (CYR) scheme, on Saturday visited a sports good manufacturing unit in the city.

The delegation visited the manufacturing unit of Savi International. It saw the entire process of designing, making and packaging rugby balls/footballs. They lauded the efforts being made by Punjabis to produce quality sports goods which were being exported across the globe.

Director of Savi International, Mukul Verma, apprised the delegation about their entire operations. He also informed the delegation about various sports good produced in the district, which were highly acclaimed across the world.

The visiting members include Varinder Singh Khera, Surinder Kaur Khera, Karan Khera, Harleen Khera, Serena Jassal, Leah Jassal, Jason Dosanjh, Gurjot Singh, Simran Lal, Kajal Lal, Harry Singh Sethi, Hunerdeep Singh Sidhu, Sargam Chhabra, Tarun Pawar, Jaskaran Rattan, Sanjeet Rattan, Jashan Singh Gill and Kiran.

Members of the delegation said the visit was fruitful and it was acting as a platform for them to further cement their ties with society, religion and culture of the state.

They said the visit had been highly memorable as apart from visiting eminent gurdwaras, they had been able to make a direct connect with the land of their forefathers. Enthralled over the visit to Virasat-e- Khalsa and other places, they said this visit had taught a number of things to them, which were hitherto unknown to them.

The delegation also lauded the commendable efforts being made by the state government for their comfortable stay, boarding and lodging in different districts of the state. They said above all, the hospitality offered by the Punjabis in the state had the same warmth which they feel in every Punjabi settled in any part of the globe.

They said that it was a memorable visit which had left an indelible imprint on their minds forever.

Welcoming the visiting delegation to Jalandhar, the Deputy Commissioner recalled that the Punjab Government’s unique `Connect with your roots’ (CYR) programme was launched from London (UK) in September 2017 where state Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had exhorted young boys and girls, especially those who had never visited India, to participate in the two-week programme, in the state.

He said the programme provides a platform to youth of the Indian origin, who have never visited the country, to go back to their ancestral roots.

Sharma said the programme also offers a unique opportunity to youth to acquaint themselves with the Punjab’s glorious culture and heritage, besides visiting places of religious, historic and ethnic importance. He said the district administration was duty-bound to facilitate the delegation for their comfortable stay in the city and no stone would be left unturned for the cause.

The Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal, Sub- Divisional Magistrate Sanjeev Sharma and Mukul Verma also felicitated the delegation. Revenue officer Gurpreet Singh was among those other present.
