Spell of district conferences started with a rally at Garhshankar. While Khaira tried to justify his step of revolting against the Delhi-based Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leadership, over 100 volunteers of the party, led by district secretary Parminder Singh, held a protest against Khaira outside the venue. They raised slogans of ‘Sukhpal Khaira Go Back’ and demanded that Khaira and Garhshankar MLA Jai Kishan Rodi be expelled from the party. Calling Khaira a traitor, they protested with black flags.

In the rally, Khaira challenged the AAP high command in Delhi that he was not afraid of its threats.

While giving a message to the party leadership in Delhi, he said: “We will stick to the six proposals passed with the acceptance of 50,000 persons during the convention held in Bathinda. Punjabis would take the decisions related to the state.” He said Kejriwal himself goes for picketing for rights in Delhi but when people of Punjab talk about their rights, they were threatened of action.

Khaira said the people of Punjab still want a third alternative and on the day when the third alternative’s government comes, problems of Punjab and Punjabis would be solved. He said he was ready to make a third alternative in Punjab.

He said the third alternate’s government would recover the price of the state’s water given to Rajasthan and Haryana.

Khaira said according to experts, the price of water given to Rajasthan alone was about Rs 16 lakh crore. While the loan of farmers and labourers of Punjab was Rs 1 lakh crore. He said Capt Amarinder Singh refused to give the drug case to the CBI even after the demand by Congress leaders then why was he trying to put the case of Bargadi and Behbal Kalan in a cold bag by handing them over to the CBI.

Jai Kishan Rodi, Kanwar Sandhu, Master Baldev Singh, Primal Singh Khalsa, Najar Singh Mansiah, Jagdev Singh Kamalu, Jagdev Singh Jagga (all MLAs) and president of Doaba zone Parmjeet Singh Sachdeva and Gurcharan Singh Basiala were among those others present. Despite the tall claims by Khaira and the Garhshankar MLA, the rally failed to gather a huge crowd.
