Prof Harbilas explained the importance of the day. The United Nations started celebrating this day in 2000. He emphasised that it was the need of the hour to channel positive energy of the youth for the development of the country.

“Youth is the backbone on a nation and they can play a vital role in every sphere of life. There are ample opportunities before them, which they can utilise for the betterment of the society,” he said.

Harbilas also spoke about the role of sports in making the society and the nation healthy. He said the strength of a nation and the ability of its people could be analysed with the achievements in sports activities.
