Corridor remark: Activists of YAD burn DGP’s effigy in Ludhiana

Ludhiana, February 23

Offended over remarks made by Director-General of Police (DGP), Punjab, Dinkar Gupta on Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, the Youth Akali Dal (YAD) activists, led by district president Gurdeep Sigh Gosha, staged a protest at Clock Tower Chowk here today and burnt his effigy. The protesters also asked the Congress government in the state to clear its stand on the statement made by the DGP.

Gosha said the offensive statement of the DGP that the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor had potential of making terrorists had deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Sikh community. Earlier, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder also used to give statement against opening of Kartarpur Sahib Corridor and now the DGP’s remarks on the same lines proved that the Congress government never wanted to open the Corridor, which was a long-cherished desire of the Sikh community.

Gosha said the Chief Minister, former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu and other Congress leaders had also visited Kartarpur Sahib and in the light of remarks made by the DGP, one would like to ask him as to whether all of them had become terrorists.

The YAD leader said the Congress was in the habit of hurting the religious sentiments of the Sikh community or rubbing salt into the wounds of the Sikhs. “But let it be known that now the Shiromani Akali Dal will not tolerate such objectionable and offensive statements of Congress ministers or government officials, he added.
