DCW ensures same maternity benefits for resident docs

NEW DELHI: After the Delhi Commission for Women''s (DCW) intervention, the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi government is in process of finalising the centralised provisions in line with the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, granting maternity leave to ad hoc resident doctors working in city government hospitals at par with their permanent counterparts.

New Delhi, March 18

After the Delhi Commission for Women's (DCW) intervention, the Health and Family Welfare Department of the Delhi government is in process of finalising the centralised provisions in line with the Maternity Benefit (Amendment) Act, 2017, granting maternity leave to ad hoc resident doctors working in city government hospitals at par with their permanent counterparts. The department is learnt to have issued guidelines to hospitals for grant of 26 weeks of maternity leave and six weeks of miscarriage leave, to ad hoc resident doctors and it had to issue a corrigendum where it modified the guidelines to incorporate 80 days of work in the 12 months prior to date of delivery. - TNS
