New Delhi, November 18

Two groups of Sikhs held protests on Monday against the Delhi Subordinate Services Examination Board which did not allow Sikh youth to appear in competitive exams by wearing mandatory articles of Sikhism like the “kara”  and the “kirpan”.

The Shiromani Akali Dal carried out a protest outside the office of the DSSSB. Addressing the dharna, Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chairman Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the Delhi Government was doing injustice to Sikh youth in spite of the orders of the High Court.

He said the High Court had clearly stated that the Sikhs could not be prevented from wearing their religious symbols while appearing in the examination.

After the dharna, the delegation went to the chairman’s office and handed over a memorandum. The  chairman assured that it would be presented at the meeting of the Board.

Another group of Sikhs led by Manjit Singh GK, the international president of the Jago-Jag Asra Guru Ott (Jathedar Santokh Singh) party and former chairman of the DSGMC, protested at the employment directorate office.  He said the government machinery was trying to prevent Sikh youth from getting government jobs.
